Barone played Gail Cunningham in The Shoes in Seinfeld season four. She was a chef known as Elaine Benes who wanted shoes. Barone was also a part-time cast member of Carol & Company, starring alongside Carol Burnett in the early 90s. Barone was also her wife, Carol Willick Ross Geller in Friendsin the show's first episode. Jane Sibbett, who replaced Barone when she left the show in order to appear as a character with a greater role, took her place.
